During the 1960’s and 70’s national championships existed in South Africa and the UK, with non-championship Formula One events being held through that period right up to the last race in 1983.į1 has become the worlds premiere racing series, featuring advanced technology, huge budgets, elite drivers and fast lap times. It wasn’t until 1950 that the first world championship race was held in the United Kingdom at Silverstone, with the championship for constructors first taking place in 1958. The rules for a world championship had been laid out before the war, and was not formalised until 1947. The first non-championship races were held that year. in 1946 after World War II, a new formula was agreed upon, which was a new set of rules that all participants’ cars would adhere to.
